The map shows Double Net Exporters (blue) and Double Net Importers (red) of both food and energy.
I created this map for my column in The New Daily. The piece describes the methodology in more detail. The idea for this map comes from everyone’s favourite geopolitical guru Peter Zeihan who mentioned that the US since 2019 is a net exporter of food and energy.
This made me wonder who else is in this privileged position. Only about 13 countries export both food and energy and are therefore very independent geopolitically speaking. Australia is member of the exclusive Double Net Exporter club. Another member is Russia, who would’ve suffered more from Western sanctions if they relied on food or energy imports.
Vulnerable countries with Double Net Importer status rely on imports for both food and energy – China being the most prominent member of this club.
