Steve Irwin’s Son Was Chased By A 12-Foot Crocodile

You probably remember the late wildlife expert Steve Irwin, aka “The Crocodile Hunter.”

Steve sadly passed away in 2006 when he was pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray. He’d been filming a documentary in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Steve’s son Robert, now 18, has followed in his father’s footsteps. He works at the Australia Zoo and stars in a reality show on Animal Planet called Crikey! It’s the Irwins.

Robert recently survived a close encounter when he was chased by a 12-foot crocodile named Casper while filming the season finale of his show.

While trying to see if Casper was comfortable in his new habitat at the zoo, the croc almost jumped at Robert, causing the younger Irwin to yell, “Bail, bail, bail!”

“By getting in their enclosures with them, and letting them put on those huge strikes from the water’s edge, they get to use all of their predatory instincts and they just love it!” Robert captioned on Instagram.

“Plus we can educate everyone about their conservation. But safety for us is also crucial and you definitely have to know when to call it. And with such a powerful and quick croc like Casper we had no choice but to bail!”

Personally, I’ll stick with the cuddly creatures, but I give Robert major props for his quick thinking!
