Sonic Text-to-Speech Videos refer to a series of parody videos in which users utilize text-to-voice technology to make Sonic The Hedgehog say unusual phrases.

Origin

On October 3rd, 2020, YouTuber SuperSonicGamer03 posted a video in which Sonic says, “Don’t need to thank me for bringing Minecraft to Smash, gaining over 68,000 views (shown below). The video was created using the website vo.codes, a text-to-speech voice generator which allows users to have various popular characters say the text they write.

SuperSonicGamer03 created multiple videos like this in the coming weeks (examples shown below).

On October 10th, 2020, YouTube channel T4thDoh posted the first video of what would become several in which Sonic addresses the CEO of Racism, gaining over 200,000 views (shown below, left). SuperSonicGamer03 also made a video using the joke, gaining over 69,000 views

Please Sega Don’t Turn Me Into

SuperSonicGamer03 is also responsible for starting the Please Sega Don’t Turn Me Into craze, which proved to be one of the most popular iterations of Sonic text-to-speech videos. On October 14th, 2020, YouTuber SuperSonicGamer03 posted a Don’t Turn Me Into A Marketable Plushie meme featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, having him say the phrase using voice imitation software vo.codes. The video gained over 198,000 views (shown below).

Over the following two weeks, dozens of similar videos were posted to YouTube, each using a similar pose of Sonic and similar dialogue. Popular examples include an October 23rd, 2020 video posted by ShizerMister which gained over 123,000 views (shown below, left) and an October 24th video by SonicSupine which gained over 160,000 views (shown below, right).
