The superstar singer and professional footballer met on the set of Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was the official World Cup song of 2010.

Shakira told Entertainment Tonight that Gerard, who was playing in the World Cup at the time, told her, “I’m gonna win this World Cup, so I can see you at the finals.”
The two share two children together — Milan, who is nine and Sasha, who is seven.

“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways,” the two said in a joint statement provided to E! News.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy,” the statement read. “Thank you for your understanding.”
