Why Is Pokimane Leaving OTV? What Did Pokimane Do?

In June, popular Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys admitted she was leaving the Offline TV house. She’s been a part of the creative group for some time now, but fans weren’t too surprised when she revealed she would be distancing herself from them before ultimately taking some time away from the internet in August.

But why did Pokimane decide to leave the OTV house?

Why did Pokimane leave OTV?

In June, Pokimane posted a video discussing her decision to move out of the Offline TV house. She clarified that her move wasn’t directly related to the other people in the house, only that she wished to live with some other friends.

However, shortly after multiple sexual misconduct allegations came out against Offline TV member Federico ‘Fedmyster’ Gaytan, Pokimane revealed he also played a role in her decision to leave.

“Although I hadn’t had any major issues with Fed since moving into the new house, I was still not entirely happy and felt a lot of pent-up resentment for him,” she said on a livestream, according to Dexerto

She claimed he would frequently get into arguments with her and openly ignore her if he was proven wrong; Fedmyster allegedly also told multiple people they were dating, despite them never being romantically involved.

“I became aware of the fact he would lie about me a lot, and create narratives in his favor that would insinuate a lot of negative things about me. This drove everyone around me away, and it’s baffling that I only just found this out,” she said.

Fedmyster was shortly removed from the group, and he made an apology on Twitter, claiming he is “not a predator,” but he acknowledged he should “take a step back” for their stories to be heard.

What did Pokimane do? Why did Pokimane apologize?

Things didn’t get easier for Pokimane after she moved out of the Offline TV house in June, and in August, she decided to step away from the internet for a short vacation. Shortly after her return, she came back with an apology.

In a 15-minute video, titled “my overdue apology,” Pokimane apologized for a series of actions she’s been called out for recently, including her recent feud with Keemstar and allegations she used the n-word.

She clarified her reasoning behind previously having other creators’ videos that included her content taken down, saying she had no intention to censor anyone, but understood why some were upset by her actions. She specifically apologized to Bowblax, who tweeted that he accepted her apology.

“I know this video is long overdue,” she told viewers. “I honestly should not have taken any time off prior to acknowledging or addressing or apologizing for these things.”

Pokimane also apologized for criticizing fellow YouTuber ItsAGundam in a video, claiming she was only trying to defend a fan she felt was being targeted by the creator.

The last thing she addressed in her apology was a clip of her from 2013, in which she said the n-word. She said that while she apologized for it in the past, she understood that it wasn’t enough and promised to do better.

“I’ve commented on this in the past, but honestly, my statements and comments then weren’t even good enough,” she said. “I really wish I could go back in time or change the past. Unfortunately, I can’t.”

Park ‘Karen’ Threatens Employee With Scissors Over Coronavirus Sign

A viral video shows a white woman brandishing a pair of scissors and telling a San Francisco park employee to “go back wherever the hell you came from.”

Andres Patino, a Colombian-American identified by local news as an employee of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks department, posted about the incident that took place in Dolores Park on Facebook on Monday.

“Upset about COVID regulations, she took it upon herself to cut & remove the blockade closing the Children’s Playground (mandated by City’s health orders) and verbally harass me,” Patino wrote in the caption of the video.

Patino referred to the woman as a “Karen,” a term used to describe the stereotype of an entitled white woman against wearing a mask or following other safety precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In the video, which is a little over a minute long, the camera closes in toward a woman dumping a sign by an entrance to a playground in the park.

“This is a non-constitutional unlawful taking of public property,” the woman says.

According to Joe Vazquez of KPIX-TV, the woman was “angry about pandemic signs.”

She then walks toward Patino, holding out scissors. She is not wearing a mask.

“Please do not approach me with the scissors,” Patino says multiple times.

“I’m not chasing you, you dumb sheep,” she says, then turns around to walk toward where the sign was. “Go to the hospital, tell ‘em to put you on a ventilator. They’ll kill you with a ventilator like they’re doing thousands of others.”

“Don’t you dare shut this park,” she continues, pointing toward the entrance of the playground.

“We paid for this,” she says. “You don’t get to take our property. We paid for it.” She then calls Patino either a “little migres” or “little nigress.” Patino told Mission Local it was unclear which word the woman used but that it was clearly intended as a “racist” and “hurtful” slur.

The woman starts picking up what appears to be cord used for the sign she’d earlier dumped. “Go back to wherever the hell you came from, stop trying to steal what we paid for,” she says.

After saying that a few more times, she suddenly stops at the sight of something not within the view of the camera.

“Ma’am, you need to stop taking these signs down,” a cop says to her.

“You want this?” she asks him, holding out a cord and the scissors.

“Please remove your scissors and yourself from the park,” the cop says.

“OK,” the woman says before the video ends.

The video has been viewed more than 100,000 times since Monday.

In a statement, San Francisco Recreation and Parks condemned the “racist, xenophobic abuse” on the employee, CBS San Francisco reported.

“The video is especially painful to watch because Andrés works to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome in Dolores Park,” the department’s statement said. “Our parks must be spaces where we are all equal and equally welcome; places where we can invest in mental and physical health and respect our neighbor’s fundamental instinct to do the same.”

Patino, who uses they/them pronouns, said in the post they moved from Colombia at the age of 9 and have lived in San Francisco for five years. Because they were on duty at the park, they felt the need to hold back.

“However, for my own sake (even if this never reaches her), I want to let her and the other racist Karen’s in SF know that regardless of what they say, this is my home,” Patino wrote.

“Your bigotry is neither needed, wanted, or accepted here,” they added. “If you can’t accept the beauty that comes from the great diversity that makes up SF culture, you might as well pack up your bags, hop back on the MayFlower, go back from wherever your racist ideologies come from, and return your land back to the indigenous people from whom it was stolen from.”

Patino did not immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment. The parks department said an investigation is underway.

Jim Belushi’s Son, Robert, Is a Successful Actor in His Own Right

Jim is a pioneering weed farmer with an innate understanding of product positioning and a strong interest in green entrepreneurship.

According to a recent article by Portland Monthly, the star of Red Heat and Mr. Destiny has been making conscious efforts to attract audiences otherwise unable to afford his wares. One of his best-sellers, the so-called Cherry Pie, fares for $9 at Portland-based dispensary the Chalice.

As the outlet reveals, Jim also has plans to open a pop-up shop that would allow homeless and low-income people to access cannabis for free.

Jim has also established contacts with the Last Prisoner Project, an incentive that aims to bring restorative justice to the cannabis industry, a recent article by Forbes reveals.

When asked about the techniques he uses as a weed farmer, Jim also revealed that he firmly believes that playing music, and gospel in particular, helps spur growth.

“We play this gospel music to let them know they are going to the heavens — they are going to have an afterlife helping people. It’s love, love, love, love, love,” Jim told Forbes.

Texas teen added a ‘Hamilton’-esque rap to Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me to the Moon’

David Sikabwe, a student at the University of Texas who performs under the name Going Spaceward, put a modern twist on the Frank Sinatra classic “Fly Me to the Moon” and it’s both nerdy and romantic.

Sikabwe added a rap verse to the swinging ditty first popularized by Ol’ Blue Eyes in 1964 and, while at first it sounds like an awkward idea, it fits great. A big reason is Sikabwe’s smooth cadence that’s reminiscent of the rapping in “Hamilton.”

“Fly Me to the Moon” with an original rap verse

Sikabwe’s lyrics combine a deep knowledge of science with some romantic woo-ing that would have made Sinatra proud.

LYRICS:

They say that every day, the universe expands

and we discover certain things that we don’t understand.

Dark matter ain’t the only mystery at hand

I’m wondrin’ how I got a girl like you to say that I’m her man

It’s a statistical anomaly, but girl, you’ve got me

Gravity is pulling me to your heavenly body

No astronomical phenomenon could ever stop me

You’ve got a smile that every star in the galaxy copied

The constellations couldn’t make as beautiful a pattern

The conversations—every night, I ring you up like Saturn

The telescopes tell us folks that you’re the coolest view

A supernova’s scootin’ over to make room for you

’cause you eclipse every wonder of the cosmos

It’s almost unfair to them, but you’re the one I want most

It’s a miracle that Galileo never found you

If he did, he’d say the universe revolved around you

Experts Reject Oleander Extract as COVID Treatment

Aug. 19, 2020 — Oleandrin, a toxic substance found in the poisonous oleander plant, is making headlines as a potential treatment for COVID-19 infection, raising concerns that uninformed people may eat the leaves of the plant and become ill or die.

Though renowned for its beauty and use in landscaping, this Mediterranean shrub is responsible for cases of accidental poisoning across the globe. All parts of the plant are poisonous,” Cassandra Quave, PhD, an expert in the use of indigenous plants for medical treatments, and curator of preserved plant specimens at Emory University, cautioned in an article in The Conversation, an independent, not-for-profit publication.

Oleandrin has properties similar to digoxin from the foxglove plant, which is used to treat heart failure. The toxic effects of oleandrin may appear several hours after consumption.

The first symptoms of oleandrin poisoning may be gastrointestinal, such as nausea and vomiting, belly pain, diarrhea (which may contain blood), and loss of appetite.

Heart problems may follow these first symptoms, including a rapid or lowered heartbeat, an irregular heartbeat, or other problems. Those poisoned may also have a burning sensation in the eyes, paralysis of the GI tract, and respiratory symptoms.

Oleandrin poisoning may also affect the central nervous system. Drowsiness, tremors, seizures, collapse, and coma leading to death are all possible. Oleander sap put on the skin can cause skin irritations and allergic reactions characterized by dermatitis.

Neither oleander nor oleandrin is approved by regulatory agencies as a prescription drug or dietary supplement.

In Vitro Study

Oleandrin for COVID-19 made headlines after President Donald Trump met in the Oval Office with Andrew Whitney, vice chairman and director of Phoenix Biotechnology, along with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, MD, and MyPillow founder/CEO Mike Lindell, a strong Trump supporter and an investor in Phoenix. The meeting was to learn about oleandrin, which Whitney called a “cure” for COVID-19, Axios reported.

In an in vitro study, researchers from Phoenix Biotechnology and the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, tested oleandrin against SARS-CoV-2 in cultured cells.

The results, which showed oleandrin “significantly inhibited replication” of the coronavirus, appeared in an article posted on bioRxiv, a free online archive and distribution service for studies that have not been published or peer-reviewed.

The Raptors Survived A Scare From The Nets To Improve To 2-0 In Their Series

The Toronto Raptors needed a come from behind effort against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday afternoon to go up 2-0 in their first round series. Despite Brooklyn leading for essentially all of the game’s first three quarters, the Raptors were able to capitalize on 17 Nets turnovers and a late rally to come out on top, 104-99.

The Nets came out like a house of fire. Despite the fact that the team is shorthanded in the Bubble, Brooklyn showed the fight and resiliency that they’ve had from day one. They led for the entirety of the frame, leading by as many as 14 points midway through the quarter. The game did not stay that one-sided, though, because Toronto had Pascal Siakam, who scored 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting in the first. Siakam played a major role in the team’s 13-0 run that got them back into striking distance.

Still, behind a good quarter from Caris LeVert, a reliable 12 minutes from Jarrett Allen, and some hot shooting — 50 percent from the field, 5-for-9 from three — Brooklyn found itself ahead at the end of the first, 33-29.

The second quarter was defined largely by Brooklyn’s ability to figure something out when the Raptors looked primed to take the lead. Toronto tied things up or cut the Nets’ lead to one on numerous occasions, but each time, they’d be able to figure something out to get a little breathing room. That changed with 3:13 left in the quarter — after some wretched ball by both teams while the game was tied, Rodions Kurucs picked up a technical foul. Kyle Lowry made the free throw, and for the first time, the Raptors took the lead.

But even after that, the Nets were able to respond. Marc Gasol got a technical of his own, Brooklyn got a little breathing room, and thanks to Toronto going ice cold down the stretch — they only hit two shots from the field in the final six minutes of the quarter — the Nets brought a 53-50 lead into the locker room. Siakam led all scorers with 16, while LeVert stuffed the stat sheet, going for 12 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and a block.

Brooklyn starting the second quarter as locked in as they did the first. Lowry opened up the scoring with a triple, to which the Nets responded by ripping off 10 points in a row. The good news for the Raptors, though, is that they employ Fred VanVleet, who kept things from getting out of hand. He single-handedly went on a 10-2 run that steadied the waters as things were beginning to look a bit choppy and rendered the Nets’ lead moot.

Still, Brooklyn kept doing just enough to keep the Raptors at bay. Temple, in particular, did a great job hitting shots — the grizzled veteran forward had 15 points in the quarter, oftentimes giving the Nets an answer whenever Toronto would begin threatening. The 80-74 lead Brooklyn held through three was also aided by shooting woes for their opponents. One of the league’s premier three-point shooting squads, the Raptors only hit nine of their 31 attempts from deep for a paltry 29 percent success rate.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The game’s familiar thread of “Toronto threatens, Brooklyn comes up with an answer” continued early on in the fourth. But ultimately, the Raptors were able to get over the hump at the 8-minute mark following a pair of free throws by OG Anunoby. And from that point on, Toronto showed off its championship mettle, while the Nets were struck by sloppiness and an inability to hit shots.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The most impressive part might have been the players to take them home — as Tim Bontemps of ESPN noted, Nick Nurse turned to a seldom-used lineup to see out their win.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

And yet despite all of this, Brooklyn had a chance to win. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot hit a triple with 40 seconds left to pull the Nets to within three, and on the ensuing Toronto possession, Brooklyn was able to force a shot clock violation with 15 seconds left on the clock. But sloppiness did the Nets in, as a turnover led to an uncontested dunk for Norman Powell.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

VanVleet and Powell led the way, with both scoring 24 points. The former added 10 assists and five rebounds, while the latter pulled in six boards. Lowry’s 21 points and nine rebounds were big, as were the 19 points for Siakam. The Nets had six players in double-digits — led by Temple’s 21 — but outside of them, the team score five points. Still, Allen and Joe Harris had matching double-doubles (14 points, 15 rebounds), while LeVert had a double-double in his own right, going for 16 points and 11 dimes.

Game 3 in this series will take place on Friday afternoon. It’s scheduled to tip at 1:30 p.m. EST on NBATV.
