Are Blake Gray and Amelie Zilber Dating? — Relationship Explained

A few days after Amelie was asked about her relationship status with Blake Gray, she and he were seen out together in L.A. In video obtained by Celebrity Livin, it shows Blake exiting Amelie’s car. Cassandra Clare Has Been Accused of Plagiarism Several Times

Beloved YA author Cassandra Clare is a huge name in the literary community, but she’s faced plagiarism accusations several times in her career.

Long before the first Mortal Instruments book was published in 2007, young adult author Cassandra Clare was best known for her fanfiction. As the writer of The Draco Trilogy, a series told from broody Draco’s point of view, Cassandra, whose real name is Judith Rumelt, gained a following online for her Harry Potter fan works.

Despite finding success online, Cassandra quickly found the validity of her work being questioned online, and before her first novel was released, she had to remove all of her fanfiction for accusations of plagiarism.

Despite the decades that have passed, Cassandra continues to face accusations of plagiarism, even in 2023. Here’s what you need to know.

Did Cassandra Clare plagiarize her fanfiction?

The Draco Trilogy was published in parts over the course of six years, from 2000 to 2006. As Cassandra’s audience of readers grew, it wasn’t long before some people noticed that passages and various quotes were pulled directly from various other works of fiction, specifically Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Babylon 5.

At the time, some readers were aware of these quotes that Cassandra had claimed to intentionally hide in her works. It was almost a game of “find the reference,” and her installments did include credit disclaimers.

According to Fanlore.org, in 2006, as The Draco Trilogy was nearing its finale, user Avocado called out Cassandra’s continued use of other works, specifically the repeated use of full passages from The Hidden Land by Pamela Dean, which was out of print at the time.

While fanfiction in itself is rooted in taking other creators’ works and ideas to expand upon them, using these works as closely as she was created a line some readers weren’t comfortable supporting. These passages that were taken almost word-for-word are detailed in Avocado’s exposé The Cassandra Claire Plagiarism Debacle.

From there, readers began noticing more similarities between her writing and other works of fiction unattributed. This led to more backlash from her readers. Ultimately, before her first novel was published in 2007, she had to remove all of her fanfiction from FanFiction.net and was subsequently banned.

In 2016, Cassandra Clare was involved in a plagiarism lawsuit.

Author Sherrilyn Kenyon, who wrote the Dark Hunter books, sued Cassandra Clare in 2016 for “willfully copying” her novels, per The Guardian, who obtained parts of the lawsuit. The Dark Hunter book series pre-dates The Mortal Instruments, being published in 1998. The lawsuit was filed in February 2016 and “alleges copyright and trademark infringement and is asking for damages, lost profits and an end to infringement.”

According to the suit, Kenyon’s fans alerted her to the alleged plagiarism in 2006, to which she asked Clare directly for references to her series to be removed, which they were — and replaced with the phrase “Shadowhunters” instead.

In 2018, Cassandra addressed the lawsuit on her personal blog, saying that the copyright infringement claims aspect were dropped in 2016, and the trademark part of the suit was settled in 2018.

In 2023, some fans have accused Cassandra Clare of plagiarizing author V.E. Schwab.

In December 2022, Cassandra announced on Instagram that she would be releasing her first foray outside the Shadowhunters realm to a new adult high fantasy series. The first book, Sword Catcher, releases on Oct. 10, 2023.

When the first preview for the book was released, many fans couldn’t help but compare the book’s summary to an already existing adult fantasy book by author V.E. Schwab, called A Darker Shade of Magic, which was released in

Both books feature an orphaned main character named Kell (in Clare’s case, Kell has one “l”) who is raised alongside the royal prince, closer than brothers, and expected to die for them. Both books feature a secondary female main character whose name starts with “L” (in Schwab’s case, Lila, in Clare’s case, Lin) and many other smaller similarities.

The similarities between the two grabbed negative attention on Goodreads, Twitter and Tiktok, with users asking one another the same questions. “main character named kel who was plucked from the streets and taken to the palace to protect the prince whom he grows a brotherly relationship with + fmc named lin? sounds familiar 🤔 a darker shade of magic much? my curiosity is PEAKED” one user questions.

At this time, Cassandra Clare has not addressed the similarities between the two books, but V.E. Schwab did allegedly take to her Instagram stories to address the accusations and plead with fans that it was merely a coincidence, as she and Cassandra are friends.

Kristaps Porzingis Is Out For The Rest Of The Mavs-Clippers Series With A Meniscus Tear

The Mavs will restart their series with the Clippers on Sunday, facing a Game 6 to extend the series, and like in Game 4 and Game 5 they will have to proceed without the services of star big man Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis has been out with right knee soreness for the last two games, but as that has persisted the Mavs decided to have an MRI done on Porzingis to determine if anything structural is wrong that’s bothering him. As it turns out, Porzingis has a mensicus tear in his right knee that will keep him out for the remainder of the first round series, at minimum, with the team announcing further evaluation is ongoing to determine what the next steps are.

The right knee is not the same knee that he suffered his ACL tear that ultimately ended his tenure with the New York Knicks, but it is still extremely concerning for a young star that has battled injuries for much of his career thus far. Hopefully for Porzingis and the Mavericks this will be something he can fully recover from for next season, as they look to build off of the momentum of this year. In the immediate, the burden will once again fall on the shoulders of Luka Doncic to be spectacular in Game 6 to try and extend the series to a deciding seventh game.

Beauty Influencers Want You to Steer Away From the Fox Eye Pose

Issa is far from the only person to take it to social media platforms to protest against the fox eye pose and its sister trend, the fox eye look.

The fox eye pose refers to the gesture some beauty influencers adopt while taking photographs showcasing their newest makeup looks. The fox eye look references the makeup styles worn by Asian characters appearing in Old Hollywood movies.

The look comprises of well-defined, sharply-tilted eyebrows and a cat-eye flick pointing towards the temple. In addition, a smudge of eyeshadow is added to the inner corner of the eyes, a previous article by Teen Vogue reveals.

As some critics argue, the trend is tantamount to cultural appropriation — the practice whereby the members of a dominant culture hijack certain signifiers, such as rituals, dances, items of clothing, or makeup looks created by a minority. Others claim it’s plainly insensitive.

“So I’ve seen the fox eye challenge going around and I have to say everyone’s missing like one, giant point to it, and it’s like, the smallest hack you can do and it makes all the difference … just apply your makeup as you normally would and then from there, you’re gonna stop, and you’re not going to do this challenge cause it’s really freaking insensitive,” Leah Melle explained in a recent TikTok video. “So how about we pick a whole new trend and throw this one out.”

Draymond Green On Trump’s NBA Comments: ‘He’s A Master Manipulator’

With the NBA set to resume play on Saturday, players from around the league continue to speak out on social issues and look to impact change in their communities. It’s why they refused to play Wednesday and Thursday, protesting the police shooting of Jacob Blake, which sparked tons of excellent conversation on race, racism, and police on sports networks, as well as leading to some tangible efforts to effect change.

The Bucks, who started the movement not to play (to the surprise of others), were able to begin a push to get the Wisconsin state legislature called back for a special session to vote on a police reform bill. The league and players union announced a three-part plan of action, creating a social justice coalition, offering PSAs and advertising about voting throughout the playoffs, and turning all team-owned arenas into voting locations.

For Draymond Green, while he’s not in the Bubble, he’s been proud watching his NBA brethren from the outside as they fight for this change, and went on CNN — where he was announced as a new CNN contributor — to talk with Jake Tapper about what’s going on in the NBA. Tapper played a clip of president Donald Trump’s recent comments on the NBA, to which Green had a strong retort, via Sopan Deb of the New York Times.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Green also explained why he was glad to see the players choose to resume the season, citing the platform they have while games are happening as the biggest microphone for them to continue speaking out, and also offered thoughts on what needs to be changed and what the NBA can do to impact that.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

It is an, unsurprisingly, well thought out and articulated argument from one of the league’s most vocal players. Green is expanding his commentary from working with TNT as an analyst during the Bubble seeding round and now joining CNN to speak on much more than just basketball.

Melania, Architect Of Her Own Demise, Wore A Green Screen To The RNC

The Republican National Convention came to a close Thursday night, and I personally didn’t watch a single minute of it because I don’t hate myself. Of course, though, for anyone with an internet connection, it’s impossible to avoid getting a rundown of the most noteworthy moments. Most of which involve any of the Trumps who spoke, Rudy Giuliani’s horrifying bottom row of teeth (do not Google it), and Kimberly Guilfoyle’s unhinged speech that was rousing enough to inspire Scar’s entire hyena army.

One highlight from the evening, however, revolves around the most silent member of Trump’s world, Melania. She’s become most well known for her vacant, thousand-mile stare, doing everything she can to avoid physical contact with her husband, and her fashion choices, and while she definitely flexed all three last night, it was her outfit that really stole the show.

The First Lady sported a blindingly green dress, and, well, we all thought the same thing.

Anyone wanna guess how long it took for folks with basic photoshop skills and an itchy trigger finger to start firing off green screened Melania memes? I’ll give you a hint: not very long.

Did Donald Trump Have a Heart Attack in His “Gorgeous Chest”?

In politics, anything is fair game. It’s something that John F. Kennedy knew deeply which is why he worked so hard to keep his Addison’s disease under wraps, because if there was any hint that a leader was physically unfit to keep up with the stresses of holding office, his opposition would have a field day. Heck, Ronald Reagan won over the Russian people by not wearing a coat outdoors, so it’s no wonder people want to know: Did Donald Trump have a heart attack?

Rumors claim President Donald Trump had a heart attack, which he has reportedly denied.

The President visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center towards the end of 2019 and in a public address said several media outlets reported he had “a massive, unbelievable heart attack,” before following up with doctors telling him he had a “gorgeous chest.”

He maintained that his visit to the hospital was just a “very routine physical” and said, “I was out of there very quickly and got back home,” before a cabinet meeting.

The Guardian reported Trump as saying, “My wife Melania said, ‘Darling, are you OK? … They are reporting you may have had a heart attack.’ I said, ‘Why did I have a heart attack?’ ‘Because you went to Walter Reed Medical Center.’ That’s where we go when we get the physical. I said I was only there for a very short period of time. I was called by our people in public relations: ‘Sir, are you OK?’ I said ‘OK for what?’ ‘The word is you had a heart attack. CNN said you may have had a heart attack. You had massive chest pains. You went to the hospital.’”

He then added that the reporting is yet another example of how “the press really in this country is dangerous.”

The White House then followed up with a memo that was issued by Trump’s own doctor, Sean Conley, who said that his visit was just an “interim checkup” of the Commander in Chief’s health and was kept a secret due to “scheduling uncertainties.”

The White House press secretary at the time, Stephanie Grisham, said that Trump had decided to get the physical exam during a “free weekend” as he had anticipated “a very busy 2020,” likely due to it being an election year. The fact that he chose to get an exam in November of 2019 was alarming to some, as his yearly exams typically come in January or February.

Concerns about Trump’s health were raised in the lead-up to his presidential bid after he publicly discussed his love for fast food, specifically McDonald’s and KFC as he touted the chains’ cleanliness standards. “One bad hamburger, you can destroy McDonald’s. One bad hamburger and you take Wendy’s and all these other places and they’re out of business,” he said at a 2016 Town Hall meeting.

Plus, he’s also served fast-food lunches and dinners at the White House on several occasions.

Harry Potter Author JK Rowling Has Returned A Kennedy Humanitarian Award After Her Feud Over Trans Rights

JK Rowling’s various beefs have apparently evolved from involving “most of the pro-LGBTQ internet” to one of America’s most notable political families. The Harry Potter author reportedly returned an award to a Kennedy human rights organization as part of the fallout from her recent spate of poor press regarding activity on social media.

Deadline reported on Friday that Rowling — who has penned a number of tweets and long essays about said tweets that have generally been described as transphobic, including by Harry Potter actors and others associated with the movies and books — returned the humanitarian award the Kennedy family gave her less than a year ago. The move came after Kerry Kennedy, president of The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization that awarded the humanitarian honor to Rowling last December, criticized Rowling and her anti-trans rights comments in the context of the organization itself.

Kennedy had directly expressed “profound disappointment” over the ongoing saga:

I have spoken with J.K. Rowling to express my profound disappointment that she has chosen to use her remarkable gifts to create a narrative that diminishes the identity of trans and nonbinary people, undermining the validity and integrity of the entire transgender community—one that disproportionately suffers from violence, discrimination, harassment, and exclusion and, as a result, experiences high rates of suicide, suicide attempts, homelessness, and mental and bodily harm. Black trans women and trans youth in particular are targeted.

On Thurdsay, Rowling published a 600-word statement about the award on her website entitled “Statement from J.K. Rowling regarding the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award.” In it, the author denied that her thoughts are transphobic.

It’s the latest instance where Rowling has distanced herself from those who have criticized her, even after initially showing support for them or accepting their praise. Earlier in the summer, for example, she deleted praise for author Stephen King after he criticized her stance on trans rights.

Jessica Sutton on “Badass” ‘Rogue’ Co-Star Megan Fox and More (EXCLUSIVE)

The action-packed film Rogue stars Megan Fox as a “badass” mercenary who leads a small squadron of soldiers on mission in Africa to rescue the governor’s daughter from another militant organization. But, their plan to extract Asilia (Jessica Sutton) unfortunately does not go as planned and now these soldiers are left running from their enemy.

While they attempt to take refuge at an abandoned farm, they come across a very hungry lion who is on the attack. Can they survive?

With loads of action and a definite thrill factor, Rogue will certainly keep viewers on their toes. Distractify spoke with one of the film’s stars, Jessica Sutton, about training for the film, her co-star Megan, and one specific scene that almost made her “pass out.”

Jessica Sutton talks challenging aspects of filming ‘Rogue.’

Filming an intense movie in South Africa definitely seems like it would come with some challenges. Jessica told us that she was a little “freaked” out because she doesn’t describe herself as an “athletic person.” Adding, “I have zero upper body strength.”

The actress, who also stars in Freeform’s breakout series Motherland: Fort Salem, explained that the film’s director M.J. Bassett made the set feel very safe.

“She’ll never ask us to do anything that she hasn’t done herself,” she told us. In one particular scene, the actors have to throw themselves down a river rapid and revealed that the director strapped a GoPro on and did the stunt herself.

“We were all like, ‘Yeah that’s our leader. Hail the queen,'” Jessica laughed.

While the film definitely had many physically challenging aspects, it also was emotionally exhausting as well. In one scene, Jessica’s character is being chased inside of a house. It’s a continuous shot, which makes it more technically challenging to nail.

“We did it about eight times. It was so exhausting, but thrilling. I was so thrilled to do it. On the fourth take, the door that I was closing got jammed. I didn’t come out of the scene,” she said.

The South African native continued, “I just tried to close the door as best I could knowing that it was jammed. It kind of fed into the panic of the character anyway and the truth of the moment. I just remember putting my foot through the door in desperation to close the door.”

At the end of the take, Jessica told Distractify that she felt “dizzy,” adding, “I had definitely hyperventilated to the point of maybe passing out.”
