Betty White, Who Turns 100 Soon, Shares Her Tips For Living A Long, ‘Amazing’ Life

The year is 1922. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is formed; the British Broadcasting Company is established; and in Oak Park, Illinois, Christine Tess and Horace Logan White give birth to Betty White. The Hollywood legend turns 100 next month, and she’s ready to celebrate (with a hopefully socially distanced party).

“I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age. It’s amazing,” she told People about turning 100. White was also asked about the secret to out-living the USSR. She credited it to being “born a cockeyed optimist,” which she “I got [from] my mom, and that never changed. I always find the positive.”

As for her diet, White jokes: “I try to avoid anything green. I think it’s working.”

White has been on this chunk of rock we call Earth for 100 years, but she’s never enjoyed a Mountain Dew? That ain’t living, if you ask me.

People also spoke to Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, who only had nice things to say about their The Proposal co-star. “Betty pivots like I have never seen, making it look seamless,” Bullock said, while Reynolds “heard that scripts for Golden Girls were only 35 pages, which makes sense because so many of the laughs come from Betty simply looking at her castmates.” Alex Trebek was right: she should have hosted Jeopardy!.

2021’s Most Popular Tweets Came From BTS And Basically Nobody Else

Musicians dominate social media: Four of the ten most-followed Instagram accounts are those of musicians, and that number jumps to five (including three of the top four) when you look at Twitter’s top accounts. BTS tends to have a massive presence on Twitter, as they had virtually all of 2020’s most-liked tweets. Well, this year, it turns out they did even better on the platform: Of 2021’s ten most-liked tweets (according to Wikipedia, with data accurate as of December 15 and updated by Uproxx on December 28 for this post), BTS had eight of them.

The year’s top tweet comes from Joe Biden, who tweeted on January 20 (the day he officially became president), “It’s a new day in America,” a tweet that has 4 million likes and is the third most-liked tweet ever. The second most-liked tweet came from Twitter themselves, who tweeted, “hello literally everyone,” as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced outages on October 4. That one has 3.3 million likes.

After that, the rest of the year’s top tweets are literally all from BTS. Their most-liked tweet is a Jungkook selfie captioned with a kissy face emoji, which has 3.2 million likes. That was also the most retweeted tweet of 2021 site-wide, not just for BTS. Most of their other tweets in the top ten are selfies from various group members, but one standout among those is a video of BTS enjoying Harry Styles performing “Falling” at a concert.

Even outside of the top ten, all of the rest of the year’s top tweets (up to No. 19, where Wikipedia’s data ends for 2021 tweets) are from BTS. Making an appearance in that range is a tweet of photos featuring J-Hope, Jimin, Jungkook, and V meeting Lizzo.

Check out the list of 2021’s top ten tweets below.

1. Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) — “It’s a new day in America.” (4 million likes; January 20)
2. Twitter (@Twitter) — “hello literally everyone” (3.3 million likes; October 4)

What Is the Meaning of “Let’s Go Darwin”? Why It’s Trending Online

There are certainly plenty of people online who are happily using “Let’s go Darwin” as a rebuke.

“The correct reply to anyone who says or #’s LetsGoBrandon is #LetsGoDarwin Pass it on,” one person wrote.

“Ridiculous as usual. Freedom threat? Let’s go Darwin,” another added.

For some, though, the phrase crosses a line into uncomfortable territory, saying that liberals should not root for the virus, even if it’s more likely to target their opponents.

30 Things For When The Weather Outside Is Frightful

Promising review: “I love these insulated pants! I bought them to walk the dog, so I’ll have no excuses, rain, sleet, snow, wind…whatever hits I’ll be ready. I was very surprised with the quality of the material, craftsmanship, and comfort. These were very inexpensive and hit all my must haves…I cannot recommend them enough. Update — it snowed this weekend and I walked the dog in 20 degree weather. I was very comfortable, could have stayed outside all day in these pants. Plus they wash well. Still highly recommend!” —Shannon K.

‘This Canadian racist bald man told us to go back to our country IN MEXICO’: Controversial TikTok of male ‘Karen’ sparks debate

A viral TikTok alleging that a Canadian national, a so-called male “Karen,” was making racist statements to a creator on the platform has garnered 493,800 views in the two days since it was posted.

“To clarify, this is at dinner in Puerto Vallarta,” the poster @deepikaverma91096 wrote. “My friends just got engaged on Christmas and we were celebrating ‘too loud.'”

The video does not show the man making these statements, but it does show the poster’s friends reacting to them as the man in question waves them off.

It was also posted with the caption, “TikTok do what you do best…. Expose him.”

While it does not appear that anyone has “exposed” the man yet, some commenters on the video have taken the opportunity to criticize him.

“They are taking advantage of their Canadian dollar to Mexican peso,” one commenter wrote. “I would do the same except you know. Not be racist.”

Still, some others criticized the video, writing that it only showed one side of events.

“Only one side of the story,” one commenter wrote. “Don’t think much unless both sides are presented.”

Other commenters called out some of their counterparts for defending the man in this manner.

“Nah, we don’t care, nothing justifies racism and the entitlement they feel even outside of their country is so annoying,” one such commenter wrote.

One commenter wrote, in speaking for Canadians as a monolith, “we don’t claim him.”

“Traveling abroad to tell people to go bak to their country isn’t a statement from an intelligent person,” they wrote.

In one scene, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Randall Mindy says, “I’m on hold. She is calling Dr. Oglethorpe, who is that?” Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Kate Dibiasky says, “Dr. Oglethorpe, head of the Planetary Defense Coordination Office.” Which prompts the response from Leo: “Is that a real place?”
