Shawn Johnson East rose to fame as a gymnast during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. There, she won a gold medal for the balance beam and a silver medal for team all-around and floor exercise. Shawn went on to win “Dancing With the Stars,” write multiple books, and make many television appearances.
In April 2016, Shawn married a professional football player named Andrew East. The following year, the couple revealed that Shawn had gotten pregnant, but it ended in miscarriage.
Shawn spoke openly and candidly about her experience with the miscarriage, earning her a ton of praise and support from followers across the country. She and Andrew felt their story could help others, so they didn’t shy away from going public with their heartache.
Two years later, Shawn welcomed their rainbow baby — but the birth didn’t go according to plan. She and Andrew continued to share their pregnancy journey via their popular birth vlog.
At 40 weeks pregnant, the expectant mom was doing everything she could to go into labor naturally, but it just wasn’t happening.
Doctors scheduled her to be medically induced, but not even severe contractions and 22 grueling hours of labor were producing the right results.
