Jimmy Kimmel Regrets His Emmys Bit With Quinta Brunson

In case you missed it, earlier this month, Jimmy helped present the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and as part of a bit, he was dragged on stage by Will Arnett.

When Quinta came to accept the award, she had to literally step over Jimmy, who was still lying on the stage. Despite asking him to get up, she ended up having to give her entire speech while standing over Jimmy.

Now, looking back on the viral bit, Jimmy admits that it didn’t go the way he thought it would.

“How I visualized this happening is, he drags me out, we read the winner, and then I’m just basically just out of the shot, and it’s not really a factor,” Jimmy said on The Howard Stern Show.

He continued, “But the stage was very different. The stage was like a catwalk. So, I was kind of in the way, in a way I didn’t imagine.”

Jimmy also noted that while some people thought the move was racially motivated, he says it had nothing to do with that.

“Some people read racial stuff into this, and everybody has their own perspective, but the fact of the matter is there were six nominees, and this was a plan I had no matter who [won],” Jimmy said.

As for the criticism that he stole her moment, Jimmy says he does “understand that.”

“It did take away — especially afterward — because then she had to answer questions about that instead of just celebrating her Emmy,” Jimmy said.

Despite the backlash, Jimmy also says there was no “ill intent,” and he’s on good terms with Quinta.
