Social distancing has certainly taken its toll on humanity these past few months, but let’s not forget the price our slimy aquatic friends have had to pay as well.

That’s what the Sumida Aquarium in Japan wants us to keep in mind, as it recently went viral after imploring the world to please, facetime its eels.

The eels, evidently, have not been visited for so long that they’ve begun to forget what humans. You can see why this story took off in the time of the coronavirus.

Naturally, people quickly commented on how they, trapped in their cages of various sizes, were eager to talk with the eels.

Evidently, the call for calls proved popular, as many would-be eel FaceTimers reported that the lines were too busy and they couldn’t talk to the most popular fish in the world.
