‘I just wanna get paid to exist’: New worker says she got the perfect ‘lazy girl job.’ Here’s what it is

Over the past year, a term has become popular in employment discussions on TikTok: lazy girl jobs.

While the term may imply a lack of effort, the actual details of these jobs are similar to those demanded by the “quiet quitting” movement. As one of the popularizers of the movement Gabrielle Judge put it, “There’s a lot of jobs out there where you can make like 60 to 80k…pretty comfortable salaries, and not do that much work, and be remote.”

“You’re not risking your life, per se,” she explains of getting work at a ‘lazy girl job.’ “It’s just safe, right?”

As the idea has become more popular, so too have discussions of what qualifies as a lazy girl job—and, of course, how to get one. Now, a user on TikTok has gone viral after revealing the details of her “lazy girl job” and how viewers can find one of their own.

In a video with over 1.1 million views, TikTok user Toyin (@vivalatoyin) says that her previous job in tech burned her out. Instead, she got what she describes as the ultimate lazy girl job: admin at a dental office.

“My job is a patient care coordinator,” she explains. “I am a front desk check in person only…What your day will look like: checking in people, answer phones all day, take messages, call and confirm…Girl, this job is too easy.”

However, not all dental administrative positions are created equal, Toyin says.

“Make sure that the dental office is a corporate dental office and it is not a private dental office,” she advises. “If you go private—less likely chance that they will have benefits to give you. You want to make sure that you get paid well and you get benefits.”

In the comments section, many users celebrated Toyin for landing a career that she’s happy in, while others claimed that the video inspired them to seek out similar roles.

“Went straight to Google & found a dental office 15 mins away looking for a receptionist,” shared a user. “Watch me be a cute little front desk girlie.”

That said, some said that Toyin’s definition of a lazy girl job didn’t exactly meet their criteria.

“I need a lazy girl job that doesn’t involve me talking to people,” wrote a user.

“I just wanna get paid to exist,” joked another.

Further users offered ideas for “lazy girl jobs” that viewers could seek out.

“Data entry at a small company. Do it. I enter a few things a day. My whole day is free. I hate it but it is a lazy girl job,” explained a commenter.

“Hotel night audits are lazy girl jobs too,” offered a second. “get you bag girlies.”

“For any of the design girlies look for MARKETING COORDINATOR positions!!” exclaimed a third. “it’s giving canva!!”
