Husband Disappears From 50th Anniversary Dinner, Returns In Old Uniform To Propose For 3rd Time

Lynn Houghtling caught the bouquet at a wedding in 1968. It must have been a sign of good luck, because just days later she ended up meeting the love of her life.

After meeting and courting Lynn for nine months, James Gauthier received his draft notice and became a reading teacher for the Air Force. He was allowed 10 days of leave in December 1968 to leave his post and go home to marry Lynn.

The following month, James and Lynn got married a second time. This one wasn’t so rushed.

The happy couple from Tonawanda, New York went on to have two daughters and three grandchildren.

Fast forward five decades. James, now 72, spent weeks planning a very special 50th wedding anniversary celebration for his beloved Lynn, now 71.

Family and friends attended the dinner, but most of the guests had no idea about the surprise James was about to reveal.

You see, a wedding anniversary wasn’t the only cause for celebration that night.

Sometime during the meal, James snuck away to change out of his dress shirt and tie and into his old military uniform — the same uniform he wore on their wedding day 50 years ago.

In another touching twist, the couple’s three grandchildren had secretly passed their online ministry courses.

You don’t want to miss the moment James walks in to surprise Lynn by getting down on one knee, right there in the restaurant.
