Savannah Guthrie made her triumphant return to Today after staying at home in self-quarantine. While it’s still recommended to stay at home as much as possible, the staff of Today are still being very cautious and practicing social distancing when they can.
For example, while it was painfully obvious that Hoda Kotb wanted to give Savannah a big welcoming hug, she didn’t. Instead, she shared some of the sweetest sentiments that prove how close they truly are.
“So many things are not normal. And in this moment, right now as I’m looking at you, something finally is,” Hoda said. “It’s good to see your face.”
Savannah also felt good to be in the same room as Hoda. As this has been her routine since she started on the show back in 2012, it must have been difficult staying away from the set. That’s one of the things we’ve all realized during this global scare. It’s amazing to think about how much we took for granted before. Even seeing someone’s face in person has incredible perks.
It’s been an extremely hard few weeks for Hoda. After she broke down on television during an interview with Drew Brees, fans watching from the safety of their own homes realized how much this has impacted everyone. In the moment, Hoda was so taken with Drew’s generous contribution to an organization fighting the virus in Louisana. New Orleans holds a special place in Hoda’s heart, so it was an emotional moment. Not having Savannah onset likely made it even tougher to handle.
