Hilary Duff Addressed The Car Seat Controversy

“You have no context. You don’t know where I am.”

Back in January, Hilary’s friend Molly Bernard shared a video sitting in the backseat of a moving car with 3-year-old Banks, who was not in a car seat.

Hilary immediately faced backlash for the video, with viewers criticizing her for not properly securing the toddler.

Now Hilary is finally addressing the situation — much to the chagrin of her publicist.

“The other day…there was this huge story that came out because my friend Molly was in the backseat of our car with Banks without her car seat,” Hilary said in an interview with Romper.

She continued, “It’s not like I’m driving on the 405 with my kids in the backseat without a car seat. You have no context. You don’t know where I am.”

In fact, Hilary says that sometimes she’ll even drive with her child on her lap once in the safety of her private gated community.

“Do you know how many times I let my kids sit on my front seat once we get [close to our driveway] to pretend like they’re driving home?” Hilary said to the outlet.

She went on to say that she’s sure other parents have done the same things, especially when they are safely accompanied by another adult.

“You’re telling me you’ve never put your kid in the backseat to drive a block before with an adult back there? I’m like, ‘Happy new year to you, too,'” Hilary concluded.
