Former President Jimmy Carter, 95, Has Been Hospitalized After Suffering A Fall In His Home

Jimmy Carter is in the hospital after suffering his third fall this year. The 95-year-old former President was admitted to the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center “for observation and treatment” following a fall at his Plains, Georgia home Monday night. A spokesperson for the Carter Center revealed the news on Twitter early Tuesday morning.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter had a fall yesterday evening at his home in Plains, Ga. He has been admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for observation and treatment of a minor pelvic fracture. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to recovering at home,” the tweet reads.

In May, the oldest living United States president had to have hip surgery after a fall. Last October, a fall landed him with 14 stitches and a serious black eye. None of these injuries have stood in Jimmy’s way, however. Neither did the two bouts of cancer he has beaten in his lifetime. He and 93-year-old wife Rosalynn Carter continue to donate their time to Habitat for Humanity.

Jimmy spoke about life in his 90s to People earlier this month. “It’s hard to live until you’re 95 years old,” the former President explained. “I think the best explanation for that is to marry the best spouse: someone who will take care of you and engage and do things to challenge you and keep you alive and interested in life.”
