Our currency, the lek, was first put into use in 1924 by King Ahmet Zogu. Some sources say that his name comes in honor of Alexander the Great, the Albanian-Macedonian king, otherwise called the Greater Leka. Albanians, and another source says that his name comes from the 15th century Albanian manor, Lekë Dukagjini.
