It has been a long road for The Real Housewives of Miami star Guerdy Abraira since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 while on vacation in St. Barts.
“For now I am preparing for my upcoming surgery and then will come my treatment plan. This process is definitely intense and what I ask of you is empowerment not pity,” she wrote in May 2023, breaking the news to her followers on Instagram. “I will ‘guerdyfy’ this cancer as I ‘guerdyfy’ everything else in my life.”
It is this positive attitude that Guerdy has displayed through surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, and while filming the always stressful and chaotic RHOM. So, what is her cancer status today?
In an exclusive interview with Distractify, Guerdy’s BFF, Dr. Nicole Martin, opened up about Guerdy’s cancer battle and how she’s doing now.

Guerdy revealed her breast cancer was caught at an early stage.
When Guerdy shared her breast cancer diagnosis on social media, the mother-of-two revealed that the cancer was detected at an early stage, while encouraging others to get health checks regularly.
She started chemotherapy in July 2023 and she had her husband Russell shave off her hair before starting treatment.
While she confirmed to fans that she was planning on “rocking wigs” occasionally, Guerdy was falling in love with her bald look, which Nicole tells us suits her perfectly.
“That girl can rock a shaved head like nobody’s business,” Nicole said of her Guerdy.

Nicole, who says she and Guerdy shared a bond from the moment they were added to the RHOM Season 4 cast, supported her friend’s health journey as soon as Guerdy told her about the prognosis on RHOM. Nicole admits seeing Guerdy anxious and in pain was “hard,” despite her years working in the medical field.

“No matter how many years of medicine you practice, when it hits close to home, it hurts,” Nicole explained. “And I think as a mom, knowing how much you put your children first, I could see how much it weighed on her the impact it was gonna have on her family. And it was hard. It’s hard to see your friend hurting, uncertain, anxious, and worried.”
Guerdy shares she has beat breast cancer!
In a recent episode of Inside South Florida, Guerdy revealed she has beat breast cancer, telling host Jason Carter, “I went through chemo, beat chemo, and now I’m doing my radiation, finishing up with that.”
In another interview with UsWeekly, Guerdy also shared how cancer has changed her for the better.

“It was a release of … all this worrisome energy that I had and just this, ‘What if this?’ and, ‘What if that?’ And I just felt so free,” she explained. “It felt so freeing to be me again and a new version of myself. So now, it’s kind of like, I take no BS from no one, no more. No BS from no one, no more. That should be my new tagline: ‘I take no BS from nobody.'”

Of course, Nicole was with Guerdy at BravoCon 2023 when Guerdy announced she was cancer-free amongst thousands of Bravolebrities and Bravoholics. Nicole said BravoCon was a “big way to celebrate” together since Guerdy had received her good news days before the event — news Nicole said she knew her friend would receive.
“Guerdy is a fighter,” Nicole said. “I said it [in] that first scene that she was gonna go [on] to fight cancer, and She sure did. And she looks beautiful doing it.”
