For context, the last movie we saw Cameron act in was the 2014 Annie remake with Jamie Foxx (more on him later). Then, in May of 2018, she clarified that she was indeed retired from acting.

In the years that followed, Cameron explained that decision was motivated by a desire to prioritize her personal life — including her 2-year-old child Raddix, who she shares with her husband (and Good Charlotte guitarist) Benji Madden.

“I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life,” she previously said. “I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films, and it’s such a grind. And I didn’t make any space for my personal life.”

However, Cameron was still in the “never say never” mindset about her retirement — and good thing, because it looks like she’s back, baby! Jamie Foxx announced that he and Cameron will be starring in a Netflix movie called Back in Action, set to start production later this year.

Jamie announced the news via a whole bit where they brought in Tom Brady on a phone call for advice about how to “un-retire.”

Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION – our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!! 🦊🐐

“Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!” Cameron added on her own Insta story. “I can’t frickin’ wait, it’s gonna be a blast!”

According to Deadline, the action-comedy movie was written by Seth Gordon (who’s worked on Atypical, The Lost City, and The Goldbergs) and Brendan O’Brien (who wrote Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Neighbors). Seth will also be directing.
