Boy With Autism Calls 911 Over Missing Teddy Bear But Hangs Up. Cop Shows Up At His Door Anyway

Ryan Paul, a 12-year-old boy with autism, was taught at an early age to dial 911 in case of a serious situation.

Ryan recently placed a 911 call to report what, to him, was an emergency. He’d been playing in his room when his beloved Teddy Bear, Freddy, disappeared.

The boy from New Jersey called 911 but hung up the phone before the operator could get any details from him. His father, Robert, realized his son had just called the police to report a missing teddy bear.

The 911 dispatcher called back. Robert explained what was actually going on and that everything was okay. He and Ryan assumed that was that.

But just a few minutes later, the father and son heard a knock at the front door. Officer Khari Manzini was responding to the location of Ryan’s hang-up call in accordance with the police department’s policies. Robert was a bit nervous that the officer wouldn’t fully understand his son’s special needs or how to properly communicate with Ryan.

Though Officer Manzini is still a rookie cop, he has a very special set of skills that made him more equipped than most to handle Operation Teddy Bear…
