Woman Loses Her Engagement Ring In The Ocean Until Treasure Hunters Find It Miraculously

A woman enjoying time with friends at a New York City beach was devastated to lose something dear to her. Gina Bopp was playing with a friend’s child at Rockaway Beach when she lost her engagement ring.

“Her son got caught in a wave, so I went to go grab him, and I felt my ring sliding off my finger,” Gina told CBS2.

She spent eight hours on Monday searching the surf and shore for the ring. Sadly, she had no luck. “I went on Amazon and bought a fake one because I thought there’s no way I’m going to get another one,” she said.

On Tuesday, Gina reached out to Merrill Kazanjian, of Metal Detecting NYC. He helped her continue her search, but the two still couldn’t find the ring. Merrill called in some reinforcements.

The “Scavengers” are a group of treasure-hunting friends of Merrill’s. They jumped at the opportunity to help. “It was an opportunity to reconnect somebody with a moment in their lives,” he explained.

“I was at work, but … these are the type of moments you want to help out,” said Louis DeFeo, one of the Scavengers who came out to help.

One of the first to arrive on the scene was Tracy Behling. She received her metal detector for Christmas and was anxious to put it to good use.

“Here we are six months later, I found a ring,” she laughed.

Tracy found the ring just 40 minutes into their search. It was feet from the water’s edge, but it was buried a foot and a half deep.

“That is by far the coolest thing I ever found,” Tracy said.

Gina couldn’t believe it when she got the call that the ring was found. “‘Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?’ I feel like I have some good angels and you guys now are them, too, on earth,” she said.

Gina and her husband wanted to thank the Scavengers for their hard work. While they only asked for enough to cover tolls and gas, the couple was compelled to offer more. Gina says she learned an important lesson from the experience. She learned not to lose hope and not to be afraid to ask for help.
