In January 2021, the meme spread throughout TikTok, inspiring more than 28 million variations. On January 15th, 2021, for example, TikToker @sidneylindler posted a variation that received more than 2.4 million views and 544,000 reactions in less than two months (shown below, left).
This continued into February, as more TikTokers joined the trend. On February 19th, TikToker @flossybaby posted a version that received more than 3.4 million views, 1.1 million reactions and 14,000 comments in less than one month (shown below, right).
On February 26th, 2021, the website StayHipp reported on the trend.
