Vlora airport to bring the construction of a sports area, hotels, resorts, a small new port,a beach and a forest area

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announced last week the opening of a competition for interested operators over the Vlora Airport project to be given through a public-private partnership procedure. A long list of documents accompanying this procedure includes, inter alia, the master plan, feasibility study or technical specifications of the tender, giving details of various aspects related to this project. The ministry acknowledges that the estimated value of the project will be around € 87 million (exactly: € 86,638,359 excluding VAT) and the duration of the contract is 35 years.

The government has also decided to guarantee the concessionaire’s income for at least 10 years if they are lower than 138m Euros.

The guaranteed baseline earnings for the first 10 years of operation will be EUR 9.6 million in the fourth year, 10.3 in the fifth year, 11.2 in the sixth, 12.1 in the seventh and so on reaching the peak of 18.6 in the thirteenth year from the signing of the contract.The government will guarantee 138m euros in 10 years revenue for Vlora Airport Concessionaire.

The Master Plan for Vlora Airport reveals how the total area will be developed after the construction of Vlora Airport in the area of Akernia. According to this document, a sports area, a dedicated area for wine, hotels and resorts, a small new port, a residential and agricultural area, a beach and a forest area are foreseen. In the other part there is also the natural protected area of Narta and Vjosa.

According to the documents, Vlora Airport lies at the former Mifoli Military Airport near the village of Akerni, Novosele, Vlora. The new airport is located near the Narta Lagoon, the Vlora salt marsh and the Vjosa River.
