Todd Starnes Is Mad He Can’t Buy A Toaster Without Social Distancing

Political columnist and former Fox News radio host Todd Starnes lamented in a tweet Friday that he couldn’t buy a toaster oven without observing social distancing guidelines and rules imposed by retailers.

Then he got flamed for his attitude in the replies to his tweet.

“Dropped by a department store to buy a toaster oven,” Starnes wrote. “Mandatory hand sanitizer squirt and mask. One-way aisles and if you deviate from the approved zone for customers— they sternly lecture you. The country as we know it has been destroyed. And I still don’t have a toaster.”

Starnes’s plight didn’t resonate with many.

“Over 78,000 Americans no longer have a life anymore because they died from #COVID_19,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) wrote. “But so sorry you had to use hand sanitizer.”

Multiple major retailers, such as Walmart, Best Buy, and others are operating under coronavirus-related safety measures. Some of these, such as operating at 25% capacity, are mandated by states, while hand sanitizer and mandatory masks can be choices made by each company.

“But Congressmen, he is having to live without a toaster,” former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub wrote in a tweet. “Without a toaster! A more staggeringly heart wrenching tale has never been told.”

Others piled on.

What is unclear is that if he did go to the store, how he didn’t leave with a toaster.
