‘The Mandalorian’ Gives Us Grogu Memes and a Perfect Ahsoka Tano

A lot happened in the latest episode of the Mandalorian that just dropped today, titled “The Jedi.” (Warning: this article contains spoilers!)

It centered around Din Djarin (a.k.a. Mando) and Baby Yoda (more on that name, in a bit) traveling to the forest planet of Corvus in search of Ahsoka Tano, whom he hopes will tell him where to find the Jedi. Mando’s goal is to deliver Baby Yoda to the Jedi, but he doesn’t know much about them.

Unfortunately, once he finds Ahsoka, she tells him the bad news: “The Jedi Order fell a long time ago.”

Since The Mandalorian is set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Yoda has already passed away. Ahsoka, who can communicate with Baby Yoda by reading his feelings, also informs Mando that Baby Yoda was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and hidden at the end of the Clone Wars. Also… Baby Yoda’s real name is Grogu. Yes, Grogu.

There’s a very cute moment where Mando says Grogu’s name for the first time and he turns around like a dog who has suddenly heard his name being called.

Everyone will probably still refer to Grogu as Baby Yoda, but the name reveal led to a lot of memes, including ones about Grogu hiding from Anakin when he came to slaughter young Jedi in Revenge of the Sith.

It’s essentially an offshoot of the Wong peacing out in Infinity War meme.

Ahsoka Tano

But, to rewind a bit, let’s talk about Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. This was our first time seeing a live-action Ahsoka Tano, and Dawson did not disappoint. Fans applauded Dawson’s performance, as well as how her character physically looked. (The makeup and costume were on point!)

Chapter 13 begins with an epic scene of Ahsoka taking out soldiers who report to the Magistrate (Diana Lee Inosanto), and it ends with her instructing Mando to head to the ancient ruins of a temple with a strong connection to the Force. There, Grogu might be able to reach out through the Force and connect with another Jedi.

But she warns Mando, “There aren’t many Jedi left.”

Next week, we’ll potentially see Mando make it to the planet Tython in search of these ancient ruins. And we’ll see if the name Grogu actually sticks.
