On August 18, 2020, Cesar Palma and his 6-year-old daughter Selena boarded a public train on their way home from Long Beach, California.
Though Cesar is blind, his loving family knows how to help him navigate throughout the city.
While sitting on the train, a 24-year-old man named Elijah Lopez approached Cesar and Selena, and the trio started chatting.
The encounter took a terrifying turn when Lopez actually asked Cesar if he could take Selena home.
During the course of the trip, Lopez’s attempts at kidnapping Selena grew more and more relentless.
Eventually, other passengers took notice and stepped in, instructing Lopez to leave the father and daughter alone.
Despite several attempts to stop him, Lopez continued to harass the father and daughter.
Lopez then followed Cesar and Selena as they got off the train in downtown Los Angeles. He grew overtly aggressive, making “obvious” and “disturbing” gestures that, again, caught the attention of bystanders who tried to intervene.
Lopez followed Cesar and Selena onto a city bus. For the third time, fellow passengers tried to put an end to it — but to no avail.
When Cesar and Selena got off the bus and started walking home, Lopez followed behind them. That’s when he physically tried to grab the little girl’s hand and pull her away.
Cesar refused to let go of his daughter and screamed for help.
This time, two more Good Samaritans stepped in. One of them was a homeless man. And this time, Lopez’s plan was officially thwarted.
