Mom Of ‘Miraculous’ Conjoined Twins Refused To Separate Them, Now They’re Learning To Walk

When Chelsea and Nick Torres learned their twin daughters would be born conjoined, doctors also dropped a devastation bombshell along with it: that their twins would only have about 24 hours to live.

Callie and Carter Torres were diagnosed with omphalo-ischiopagus, a rare condition that affects fewer than 5% of conjoined twins throughout the world.

Still, the Idaho parents refused to terminate the pregnancy as their medical team suggested. Instead, the couple moved to Texas so the babies could receive specialized care at Texas Children’s Hospital.

The twins were born with two separate hearts and two separate stomachs, but connected at the pelvic area. They each have control of one arm and one leg.

While the girls were born safely, Chelsea and Nick were then faced with the decision to separate them, a risky and complicated surgery that would have provided both Callie and Carter lives of independence.

The procedure could potentially be fatal, so Chelsea and Nick made a controversial decision to not have their daughters undergo the separation surgery.

In the video below, viewers are given an updated glimpse into the lives of Callie and Carter… who are now beating the odds insurmountably, and learning how to walk!
