Macaulay Culkin’s Response To The ‘Home Alone’ Reboot Is Priceless

As I’m sure you’re all aware because we’re all bombarded by them everywhere we look, Disney has been all about rebooting its classic films as of late. Now, by “classic” I mean actual classics. Like Beauty and the Beast, or Cinderella, or The Jungle Book and The Lion King. I can’t speak for the rest of you, but for the most part I’ve been fine with these reimaginings of movies we all grew up with. Sure, they’re not original stories, but it’s cool to see how today’s technology and a new generation of filmmakers and talent change (and maybe even improve) upon these iconic films.

That being said, there are some things that just shouldn’t be remade. Or at least, not yet.

Disney just announced this week that the next batch of movies that are going to get a 2019 do-over are Home Alone and Night at the Museum.

What.

First of all, on the Disney timeline, Night at the Museum is a literal baby. The first film was made in 2006 and the last installment was released in 2014. TWO-THOUSAND-FOURTEEN. WE’RE BARELY A DECADE OUT FROM THE ORIGINAL MOVIE. How are we even remotely close to being ready for a REMAKE? Rhetorical question, we’re not. And rightfully so. SECONDLY, sure, Home Alone is from 1990. So at least we’re coming up to the 30 year mark on that one. However, what could a remake of Home Alone provide audiences with this time that they didn’t get the first time around?? It’s already a live action movie! There is no terrible 90’s CGI to rectify! AND IT HAS JOHN CANDY!

There is no reason to touch Night at the Museum, and even less reason to take another stab at the perfection that is Home Alone.

Speaking of Macaulay Culkin, the general public aren’t the only one up in arms about the idea of this reboot. Aside from the Google Assistant parody which does a pretty good job showing how easy it would be for a kid left alone at home to survive just fine thanks to smart technology, the movie’s original star posted the best response to the announcement from Disney.

And, truthfully, this is the only way I would want to see a Home Alone remake. Not only is the thought of 2 hours of adult Macaulay Culkin sitting on his couch by himself eating Chinese takeout hilarious, it’s definitely a relatable scenario for the kids (now also adults) who grew up watching the original.
