Imports of cars manufactured before 2009 banned from 1 January

December 31, 2019 is the deadline when used cars that are not equipped with the EURO 4 system will be allowed to enter our country. The General Directorate of Road Transport Service has informed all citizens that starting January 1, 2020 only cars that meet the criteria of EURO 4 and above will be allowed to be cleared.

This decision was taken in October 2018 as a necessary measure to stop environmental pollution from cars manufactured before 2009 which have higher pollution levels.

The decision to ban the import of used cars was envisaged to take effect in January this year, but was postponed to January 1, 2020 as small traders raised concerns that many purchased cars were blocked at customs points , as they the year of production was before 2009.

According to the official data 5,209 vehicles with a year of production over 2009 / Euro 4 or higher, or 45% more new vehicles, have entered our country in the past 8 months , leading to a direct reduction of air pollution.
