Last year, Paradise, California suffered from the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. Dozens died, and thousands lost their homes — including many dogs.
Months after the fire, many dogs are still in shelters. One high school in Rancho Cordova, California came up with a class project to help.
Students in a construction class at the school made dog houses for pups who lost their homes to the fire. They loaded the finished houses onto a trailer and hand-delivered them to an animal shelter in Paradise.
Ashley, a student at the school, is in charge of the class project. She says her teacher came up with the idea originally.
“Once he told me about it, I just ran with it. It’s been a great project to do,” Ashley told a local reporter. “It’s a little bit difficult, but for the most part, it’s a lot of fun. The students are great, and they’ve been really helpful throughout the whole thing. They’ve been really dedicated and they love it.”
The dog houses are going to the Paradise Animal Shelter. The students are sending over 30 dog houses… Plus one chicken coop.
Their teacher, Andre, couldn’t be more proud of their efforts.
“It’s really great seeing them putting together all the skills we’ve been learning in class to good use for a great cause,” he said.
