Over the span of 35 years, Judy Kirby taught thousands of students the joy of singing and of music.
Judy, a music teacher at Western Avenue Elementary School in Flossmoor, Illinois, left a lasting impact on so many kids. In fact, some of her former students call her their “musical mother.”
When the community learned Judy was dying and could no longer speak, they came together to provide something for her the same way she did for them.
Former students started showing up outside window at the care facility to sing to her.
Other students who couldn’t be there in person sent videos of themselves serenading her with songs she taught them when they were children.
She received songs from students all over the country, from New York to California.
