Disney World Reopening Videos refers to a series of advertisements by the Walt Disney company about the reopening of the Disney World theme park during the coronavirus. The videos feature employees wearing face masks and shields saying “welcome home” to the camera.

Origin

On July 8th, 2020, the verified Disney Parks YouTube account released a video of employees cleaning and readying the park. The post received more than 226,000 views in less than one week (shown below, left).

On July 11th, Disney began releasing videos about the reopening on various channels. Many have since been deleted, however, the version available posted by the Cafe Mickey Disneyland Paris received more than 12,000 views in less than one week (shown below, left).

Spread

Following the release of the video, people began remixing the video to reflect the danger they see in attending a theme park amid the pandemic. On July 11th, Twitter user @tonygoldmark edited the “Welcome Home” video so that the employees say “Stay at home.” The post received more than 221,000 views, 11,000 likes and 5,100 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

That day, Twitter user @TimSatre tweeted the commercial with the audio for the trailer for the horror film Us. The post received more than 388,000 views, 17,000 likes and 6,200 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

Twitter user @CEHudspeth tweeted the video as an “A24 trailer.” The post received more than 355,000 views, 15,000 likes and 6,300 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

Twitter user @jimmisimpson tweeted a version with the caption “They finally got the Disney World ad right.” The tweet received more than 1 million views, 52,000 likes and 20,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below).
