Dad Hilariously Trolls Bride-to-Be During Surprise Engagement Photoshoot

Although I don’t have any scientific evidence to prove the hypothesis I’m about to propose, it’s a very well-known “fact” that whenever someone officially becomes a father, they can’t help but do their darnedest to embarrass their children, just like Allison Barron’s dad did on the day of her engagement.

I know when my kids were born, in addition to the primal love that was instantly activated in some corner of my brain, a penchant for lame jokes that’ll be sure to get their eyes rolling for years to come was turned on as well.

Now the thing is, these corny gags, puns, and awful quips will come out at the worst possible moments. My son says, “I’m hungry.” I say, “Hey Hungry, I’m Dad.” It’s just awful.

Allison experienced the old “Dad Joke at the Worst Possible Time” when her boyfriend was proposing to her. I know, you’re probably wondering how did Dad slip in a joke when that was going on, without completely ruining the moment.

It’s a delicate balance and one that I don’t know how I’d ever be able to pull off. On the one hand, it’s your duty, as a father, to embarrass your child with a terrible joke no matter what the situation. If you look at Allison in this photo, she’s absolutely smitten that the love of her life got down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.

If you notice in the photo above, Allison’s now-fiance strategically placed a secret message off in the distance. I’d imagine they walked a special route and he constantly had to draw her attention away from looking in that direction while the two of them went on a nice romantic stroll.

There was also another message waiting somewhere in the distance, but it wasn’t on a landscape. This time, it was high above her father’s head. It somehow contained a simultaneously touching/dad-jokish message, and using only two simple words.

Allison found the whole thing hilarious, and I mean, who wouldn’t? Here you are on one of the most emotional days of your life and your father’s hanging around, holding a sign telling you to “Say No” to the man who just proposed to you.

I’m not going to lie, as much as I love my own family, I’m kind of jealous and want to be a part of Allison’s now – seems like they all have a pretty great sense of humor.

Allison’s dad’s slick sign-holding gag instantly became a meme. It started with a few photoshops by people, some of which weren’t nearly as funny as the initial joke.

image

Others were just as poorly photoshopped, but packed excellent Star Wars prequel references. In all seriousness though, if her dad pulled this off, I’d really consider becoming a part of Allison’s family.

image

While others used the original photo to create memes that hit a little too close to home. In this instance, you’re definitely going to listen to Allison’s dad’s advice.

Some people decided to focus on other parts of the photo, which became an “OMG you too?!” sub-thread of its own. Yes, of course they did, I mean this is the internet after all. Instagram was basically created for body-stalking strangers online.

imageimage

Oh, you thought you were going to get out of this thread without a Tyler Perry movie reference eking its way in somehow? Well guess again. It couldn’t have been a more perfect one than this, either.

And like anything on the internet, there was someone there waiting to suck out the fun by taking Allison’s father’s joke super seriously. I mean, yes, the guy’s right and totally has a point, but still.

When it comes to dads trolling their daughters, Allison’s right up there with the legends, like this comedian who decided to recreate his child’s selfies, which resulted in straight-up hilarity.

Now that’s what I call quality dad joke-ing.
