Dad Films Son Running Mile With Flag To Send Message After Trooper Is Killed 2,000 Miles Away

Zechariah Cartledge, 10, spends many of his free weekends running laps around his local track. All the while, he carries a big American flag marked with a thin blue line.

The little boy from Florida doesn’t run for his own health, though.

Recently, Zechariah was running to honor Trooper William Moden, a Colorado state trooper who was struck and killed by a pickup truck while responding to a serious car crash on I-70.

Zechariah is so passionate about his mission to honor fallen heroes across the country that he started running one mile for each and every one. He calls it “Running for Heroes” and his Facebook group already has more than 30,000 followers.

Trooper Moden was the 149th officer he has run a mile for since 2018! Zechariah ran his 150th mile for Officer Steve Brown of Florida, who suffered a fatal heart attack after completing his third day leading the Athletic League’s Police Camp.

There are times when Zechariah has run for five days in a row, taking each lap as an opportunity to reflect upon each and every officer’s bravery and sacrifice. Sometimes local officers and firefighters join him and his proud father is always there to film him.
