Finding a child who isn’t embarrassed by their parents is pretty tough. It turns out that even the kids of celebrities can’t help but slink down in their chairs when their parents are being so embarassing. Ben Affleck is joking about how Jennifer Garner learned that the hard way during their son Samuel’s 7th birthday party.
Jennifer and ex-husband Ben Affleck threw Sam an awesome How To Train Your Dragon themed party to celebrate his birthday. Jennifer thought she would surprise him by dressing up as a character from the movie, Astrid, while bringing out his birthday cake. The 7-year-old’s reaction was not what she expected.
She posted a photo to Instagram of her super-cute costume. She captioned the photo, “Well, guess what. It turns out 7 is the age my kid stops thinking it’s cool when I dress up for the party. #youngestchild #firsteyeroll
#anyoneneedanAstrid🤦♀️🤣.”
At the premiere of his film Triple Frontier, Ben made light of the situation. While he didn’t get dressed up in Viking garb himself, he did see Jen in all her costumed glory. “I was shocked as anybody when I saw Jen come out as Astrid,” Ben told Entertainment Tonight. “But then she said Sam was like ‘Okay Mom, we already have an Astrid.’ I felt so bad, she was devastated.” He added that despite their best efforts, “we’re just not that cool.”
Those are the growing pains many parents face as their little ones get older. It’s great to see Jen and Ben doing an awesome job at co-parenting, even if their celeb status and attempts at fun don’t impress their kids. Watch the video to see Ben recount the funny event.
