Alex Trebek Is Already Rehearsing His Final Day On Jeopardy: ‘Leave Me 30 Seconds At The End’

Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has been upfront with fans about his ongoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. Alex revealed he was diagnosed with the disease in March 2019, and since then has kept everyone updated about his prognosis and how his cancer has been responding to treatment.

Alex has also been upfront about his role on the show, and his hope that he can continue hosting Jeopardy! as long as possible. However, it’s only human to think about all of the possible outcomes in any given situation, and it’s not surprising that Alex has recently admitted he’s thought a lot about his final day as host.

“It’ll be a significant moment for me. But I’ve kind of, in my mind, rehearsed it already,” he explained. He then went on to say, “What I would do on that day is tell the director, ‘Time the showdown to leave me 30 seconds at the end. That’s all I want. And I will say my goodbyes and I will tell people, ‘Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me because I have no say whatsoever. But I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention and respect that you have shown me… then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.”

Alex’s honesty and ability to sincerely share his struggle has won him new fans around the world. Everyone is pulling for him, and hoping that he beats the intense odds he’s up against. Jeopardy! fans were heartened when Alex marked the beginning of his 36th year as host, and hope for many, many more.
