The Battle of Guadalete was the first major battle of the Umayyad conquest of Hispania.
It was fought between the Christian Visigoths under their king, Roderic and the forces of the Muslim Umayyad Caliphate, under the commander Tariq ibn Ziyad.
The two armies met at the battlefield of Guadalete where King Roderic was defeated and killed by Tariq Bin Ziyad on Ramadan 28, 92 AH.
After the first victory, the Muslim conquest of Spain was well underway, with the army continuing to conquer most of Spain and Portugal with little difficulty, and in fact with little opposition.
By 720 Spain was largely under Muslim control.
That historic battle has been portrayed in Fateh Al Andalus series. You can watch my review video on this series here 👇
