Listen: keeping your houseplants alive is a bit of a task, okay? And I am definitely not speaking as someone who somehow fails to keep spider plants and succulents alive year after year. Luckily, a toddler houseplant wiz has graciously taken to her mom’s Instagram page to offer tips for how to keep our houseplants alive. Honestly, I’m ready for her advice!

Two-year-old Summer offers a tip each week over at her mom’s account, Urban Garden Colorado. She recently dropped the knowledge that many of us (me, it’s me) so desperately need:

“Hi Urban Gardeners!” She begins the captioned video. “I have a tip for you! Did you know? Succulents like it dryyyyyy!! Let them dry out for a few days before you water again. It’s super easy. Even a baby can do it.”

Ouch, Summer!

Of course, she goes on to clarify one very important fact: “I’m not a baby. I’m a big girl!”

It turns out that Summer definitely knows what she’s talking about! In addition to being careful with how and when you water, succulents also need lots of light, need to be rotated frequently, and they need to be planted in a container that offers plenty of drainage.

Summer’s mom runs a garden store in Colorado, but if you fall in love with something you see and you don’t live nearby, her shop has an online store, too. And of course, you can see more of Summer’s videos over on Instagram!
