After more than a century of entertaining audiences in Times Square with performances from the likes of Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, the Palace Theatre in New York City is getting a face-lift, literally.

Part of the renovation includes a grand redesign combining a hotel, retail space, and a Broadway theatre all in one. The structure will feature an outdoor platform hovering above 7th Avenue, encased by the largest LED screen in Times Square, which will open for live events. But there’s one glitch…the construction team must raise the 1,7000-seat Palace Theatre, in its entirety, by 30 feet from its current elevation.

Learn about this project’s painstaking process, multiple engineering teams, and biggest challenges – including the fact that the Palace Theatre was granted landmark status by the city in 1987.
