“The Bubble” Is The Pandemic Comedy We Needed

Step into this bubble of pandemic satire.

Netflix’s new film, The Bubble, is a satirical comedy about the pandemic. It fields a battery of redoubtable comedy actors and sneaks in some funny cameos from other megastars (like Benedict Cumberbatch and Daisy Ridley).

Netflix

Allegedly inspired by the troubles that dogged the production of Jurassic World: Dominion, this Judd Apatow-directed movie follows the actors and production team of a dinosaur movie who are trapped within the COVID-19 bubble that their luxury hotel is. Totally cut off from the outside world and sometimes forced to isolate for two weeks in their respective rooms, the cast and crew start going crazy and adopt desperate and foolhardy ways to escape the shoot.

Although critics universally hated the movie, the public did get many loud laughs from it. Let’s see what the viewers are saying.

Someone who clearly disagrees with most of the critics.

I have no idea if everyone else saw the same #TheBubble movie I saw. But I couldn’t stop laughing! 😅 Keegan, Karen Gillan, Fred Armisen, Pedro Pascal, David Duchovny, Leslie Mann. The actors who play the hotel staff. This Mish mash of insanity actually worked! Apatow did it.

Even the guest stars never failed at making us laugh.

So, folks, if you’re tired of grim #Covid news and could use some relief “The Bubble” with Karen Gillan, Pedro Pascal and David Duchovny was a crazy comedy about making a movie under pandemic conditions. I normally avoid anything to do with that topic, but this was really funny.

Doing wild things to stop self-isolation from driving you wild.

Karen Gillan snorting coke with Pedro Pascal and David Duchovny and then doing a tiktok is not something I ever thought I’d see #TheBubble

Karen Gillan was totally hilarious in this.

Skipping to a random part in the Bubble because I wasn’t feeling interested in the movie and seeing Karen Gillan peeing her pants was definitely an odd moment.

Leslie Mann and David Duchovny have a history too.

Starting petition for Leslie Mann and ⁦@davidduchovny⁩ to do a romcom together … #TheBubble

She has a guest appearance of a few minutes, and she lampoons the privilege that many in Hollywood enjoy.

8.

Pedro Pascal (along with Karen Gillan) has stolen the movie.

Watched #TheBubble, and my main takeaway is that I’ll watch Pedro Pascal & Karen Gillan do anything. Pedro is a great unhinged weirdo, and Karen can somehow also do the weird stuff while still being the classic straight man? It’s a weird one. Had some laughs.

Those cameos were super funny and totally unexpected (as Daisy Ridley and Benedict Cumberbatch’s cameos were already spoiled by the trailer).

10.

Harry Trevaldwayn was the undiscovered gem that this movie brought forth.

I say this with love, as someone who would take a bullet for David Duchovny and thank him for the privilege, but @harrytrevaldwyn was far and away the best part of The Bubble, and I hope he gets 100 million more acting roles.

A performance so mind-blowing that one forgets their job.

“Sorry I’m late boss, I had to watch my fave #DavidDuchovny in a silly movie about making a movie during the pandemic.” #TheBubble

People keep crediting Pedro Pascal (and one of his co-stars — here Keegan-Michael Key) for carrying the movie.

spoiler-free yet grotesquely narrow the bubble review: pedro and keegan i will pay for your chiropractor bills for carrying the weight of this movie on your poor backs. i could listen to guz talk for hours +

Fortunately, the irony is not lost on some.

in The Bubble, one character is a tiktok star who lands a part in a big budget movie without having to audition for it, to satirize hollywood, and she’s played by iris apatow

Pedro Pascal has absolutely dominated the chatter about the movie. Here are a few reactions just admiring his performance in it.

This TikTok had me in splits, but Pedro Pascal’s dancing had me breathless.

That scene was absolutely crazy, especially given the fact that Daisy Ridley makes an actual cameo.
