Scientists Use AI to Teach Robots How to Peel Bananas

As technology continues to progress, it seems like there’s almost no limit to what can be done.

And now you can add robots gently peeling bananas without destroying them to that big list.

Folks at the ISI Laboratory at the University of Tokyo taught robots how to peel bananas without turning them into mush using AI learning. Robots lack the dexterity to handle things without destroying them so the people at ISI Laboratory created over 800 minutes of demonstration data of humans operating the robot to peel bananas.

The robot was then trained using that data and was able to successfully peel a banana without destroying it more than 50% of the time.
