OK, so, this whole thing started with a comment Ina Garten left on Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram.
Reese recently posted some suggested habits to improve your everyday life — drink more water, be outside more, read every day, and go to bed early. You’ve heard it all before.
So the Barefoot Contessa herself playfully jumped into the comments and offered her own suggestions for coping with pandemic-era life: bingeing TV shows if you want, spending time with people you love, and playing Sudoku if you don’t want to read.
One of Ina’s suggestions was “Drink more large cosmos” — and as it turns out, Martha Stewart wasn’t a fan of that one.
When asked about Ina’s cosmo-guzzling tip in an interview with People, Martha didn’t hold back. “I do not agree about taking to drink to cope with things like the pandemic,” she said.
I’m not totally sure Ina was specifically recommending binge-drinking as a response to the pandemic, but Martha nonetheless does have a point. Booze isn’t the best thing to rely on in tough times or otherwise — and there’s plenty of other things you can do to blow off some steam, anyway.
