At the end of Season 9, Voight tried to prevent Anna from hurting more people, but in a panic she shot him in the shoulder.
He was fine, but Upton, in an attempt to protect Voight, ended up shooting her. She ended up not surviving the encounter, which has many fans convinced Voight is also leaving.
