Approx
280 million people or roughly 3.5% of the world’s population live as
immigrants. This has increased by 61% since 2000, when roughly 174
million people lived as immigrants
Unsurprisingly, richer countries tend to have higher proportion of immigrants.
United States, has the highest number of foreign born population – at 50.1 million (~15% of its population)
The Top 5 countries by number of immigrant population is shown below.
