A 25-year-old Indiana woman recently reconnected over Facebook with a man she’d known since childhood. After getting reacquainted, she agreed to pick up Travis Moore in Mississippi. The pair spent the next few days staying in hotels in the Bloomington, Indiana area.

But things took a terrifying turn after Moore and the woman had some kind of falling out. When he reportedly locked her out of the hotel room, she went to get in her car and realized he was following behind her. He then pulled out a gun and ordered her male friend, who was reportedly in the car at the time, to get out of the vehicle.

Bloomington Police Lt. Ryan Pedigo says Moore “jumped into the car with her, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to drive him to an apartment complex here in town.”

The woman started driving, fearing for her life… but she also knew Moore was not from around Bloomington and was unfamiliar with the directions. This gave her a leg up, which she ultimately used to outsmart him.

Moore thought the woman was following his directions and taking them to the apartment complex. What he didn’t know was that she was paying a very close attention to their surroundings and noticed they passed a local police station.

That’s when she made a courageous split decision — one U-Turn — that potentially saved her life.
