Each year, organizers in Camden, New Jersey give away hundreds of free wedding dresses to veterans and their families.

The annual event is called Salute to the Dress. A local realty company donates the dresses, and anyone can come find their dream dress, as long as they’re a veteran or the family member of one.

“We’ve been able to offer free wedding dresses in the amount of over 500 dresses,” Camden County Freeholder Bill Moen said. The only requirement is that they go to “local Camden County veteran families.”

The opportunity is a game-changer for veteran families, who can use the gorgeous dresses for weddings or vow renewals. Wedding dresses are such an important part of these occasions, but it can be really hard to find the perfect dress at the right price.

One bride, Rachel Dietrich, says the event was the only way she could find the gown of her dreams. She’d previously been dress shopping at wedding boutiques, but couldn’t afford their offerings.

“To see all this and know that I can get it, it’s a blessing,” she said.

Another woman, Nazel Custis, found a dress at the event to wear to her upcoming wedding to a Navy veteran. She couldn’t be happier with her choice.

“It’s an amazing dress. I look beautiful,” the future bride said through tears. “I look like a princess, I’m happy.”
