On October 28, 1951, Ronnie and Donnie Galyon were born in Beavercreek, Ohio. They were conjoined at the waist, but had separate hearts, stomachs, and limbs.
Doctors said that performing a risky surgery to separate the twins would most likely mean that one of the brothers would not survive. Their parents refused to separate them.
As little boys, Ronnie and Donnie starred in traveling carnivals and circuses as a sideshow attraction; people would pay money to see the conjoined twins.
They became the sole breadwinners of their family and the money they made supported the Gaylons.
In 2010, the brothers were thrust into the national spotlight when the TLC channel aired a documentary about them. The film showed how they walked — a process that required each brother to his take turn going backwards.
In 2014, at the age of 62, Ronnie and Donnie officially became the world’s oldest surviving set of conjoined twins. By this point, they had moved back in with their family while dealing with health issues.
On July 4, 2020, Ronnie and Donne passed away in hospice at age 68.
