“Many people have been using quarantine as a time to perfect their bread or coffee making skills, but I personally have taken this as an opportunity to make increasingly unsettling eggs,” writes Anna Hughes in her recent viral tweet. Her various egg dishes are, indeed, quite unsettling.
And not only did her tweet go viral, but it inspired others to share the sad, weird, and otherwise disturbing egg creations they too have been making while we all lose our minds from having to stay home all the time. I don’t know if you’re ready to see these weird eggs, but I also don’t know what to say to prepare you for them, so without further ado…

Let’s take them one by one. First, the giant white and tiny yolk. This was obviously achieved by using the whites of several eggs and only one of the yolks. But is that a giant pan? Because that yolk looks teeny tiny. It could be the angle of the photo I guess, but Anna’s right. There’s something extremely unsettling about that one.
Number two: The moon and star. I regret to inform Anna that this one is mostly adorable and not very unsettling. Until you peer into the depths of that egg white moon. Suddenly, something is off. Is it the texture of the egg? The color? Something there is strange.
With number three, the unsettling nature shoots up exponentially. What is going on there?! Why is the yolk giant?! Why does it…kind of not look like a yolk? Is it half a mango face down in a smear of yogurt?! I’m having trouble believing that this is an egg. Intent on keeping everyone feeling weird, though, Anna offers no explanation.
Finally, number four might take the cake. It looks like a pool of egg yolk with a hardboiled halved egg white in the middle. A reverse-egg, if you will. I hate it! But in case you aren’t unsettled enough, others responded to Anna and now there’s a giant thread of creepy eggs upon which you could stumble at any moment.
Have you ever seen your anguish and strife depicted in a frying pan like this before? I’m willing to bet you haven’t. These eggs are literally screaming to be put out of their misery. Just like you. Just like me. It’s 2020 in breakfast form. Likewise, this next monstrosity…
I’m struggling to understand where the third runny yolk is. I suppose it’s hidden in the middle, but the two on the top seem to be in tact. But either way, it’s another sad egg face that manages to express what we’re all feeling these days.
Some of the eggs that others shared were unsettling in other ways. For example, this next one, an exploded hardboiled egg, is truly a sight to behold.
It looks creamy and I hate it. Actually, I just watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for the first time last night, and this egg 100 percent reminds me of the leader of the orcs, an off-white, giant, egg-shaped man with a lot of flesh and boils all over his body.
If you’re looking for a new quarantine hobby and bread-making has proved too involved and embroidery is not your speed and you have no attention span for reading, maybe try ruining our lives by cooking weird eggs. You might go viral for it.
