One woman’s quest to be the next Bachelorette came to life when she tricked dozens of her Tinder suitors into coming together and competing for her IRL.
One of her (lucky?) matches detailed the experience from the very first text to the ultimate reveal. Or as he described it, “An epic tale about subterfuge, dating in the 21st century, and the fall of human civilization.”
It all started when Twitter user @bvdhai jumped on Tinder to do some swiping and came across an “attractive young lady” with no bio. A little weird, but so far no red flags.
They continued texting and eventually swapped numbers — and that is when things got weird. Grab some popcorn because it’s about to get good.
Like any avid online dater, @bvdhai is convinced he is getting ghosted. But she reassured him she was being truthful and would reach out in a few weeks. “She says, ‘Thank you, I was worried you would think I was trying to blow you off haha but for sure I’ll text you in like a week, I’m excited’ in my head I’m like sssssssuuuuurrrreeee I respond,” he tweeted.
But to his surprise (and the thousands of readers who retweeted this thread) she actually texted him back! And not only did she text him back, she scheduled a date.
Needless to say, @bvdhai was pleasantly surprised and agreed to meet up with her. The next day, he gets another text confirming their date. “This morning she texts me at 9 a.m. ‘hey it’s gonna rain today but I think it should clear up in time for our date.’ I’m like cool, I’ll be there.”
So, these are some serious red flags. Would a triple threat with 3,000 followers on Instagram really need to be on Tinder when her DMs are probably blowing up on a daily basis? Nevertheless, he gets ready and heads out to meet his potential new girlfriend.
Once again, she reached out to let @bvdhai know that she is running late and asked him to stand by the stage. He decided to stand off to the side — and that is when he spotted her.
So, not only is she late, but she arrives with two bodyguards. Super casual.
“I immediately think I’m too f–king old for this shit,” @bvdhai explained. However, things only get worse from here.
“Then she says I’ve invited you all here for a chance to go on a date with me and proceeds to give a Hunger Games speech about what its gonna take to date her,” @bvdhai writes. And that’s when it clicks for him and the small crowd gathered in front of the stage.
You would expect @bvdhai to get angry at this point, seeing as he was played into attending a clout chaser’s free performance, but he actually applauds the “DJ” for fulfilling her Bachelorette dreams.
However, her “fallopian fortitude” was not enough to get @bvdhai to volunteer as tribute, and he went home. But not before getting some photo evidence of what just might be the worst Tinder date ever.
However, this guy was definitely still interested in “Natasha” — as she introduced herself on stage. You can watch a live-stream of the cringe-worthy moment here. About 11 guys actually stayed to take part in the competition, which included a race. So original.
It wasn’t long before another “victim” came forward — and revealed they were hoodwinked by Tinder’s resident Effie Trinket, too.
Twitter users quickly used their investigative skills to track down the mystery woman — naming Natasha Aponte as the possible actress, model, singer turned Tinder troll. Unfortunately for everyone, her Instagram page has been set to private.
Despite being tricked into competing for a Tinder girl’s heart, @bvdhai continues to keep things positive.
At least she wasn’t on Tinder scamming guys for $5. Ah, dating in 2018.
