Visiting social media influencer Natalia Taylor’s Instagram might make you green with envy. The 23-year-old shared pictures with her followers of a very luxe vacation getaway in Bali. It looked like Natalia was out there living her best life. In a follow-up YouTube video, she revealed that wasn’t the case. She actually took those FOMO-inducing vacation photos in an Ikea.

Many of Natalia’s 333,000 Instagram followers fell for the fake photos. Taking fake vacation photos in an Ikea is easy enough since the stores have predesigned showrooms. She made it happen with the help of photographer friend Ally Amodeo. Natalia even left some Ikea price tags hidden in the shots to see if anyone would notice.

So why fake it? Natalia wanted to point out that it’s what many influencers are doing online. “Life on the internet isn’t always what it seems; especially in this day and age where it’s so easy to pretend to be anyone you want to be,” she explained on her YouTube channel. She has nearly 2 million subscribers on the platform.

Natalia hoped to remind her followers that everything you see on social media isn’t exactly real. “So many influencers have actually been caught in the act pretending to be at a destination when they really weren’t,” Natalia continued. “It’s just either Photoshop, or it’s not even them.”

Next time you feel yourself lusting after the life of your favorite influencer, remember that what you see may not be the real deal.
