Woman Breaks Up ‘Dog Fight’ To Save Her Pup, Then Sees The Other Animal Isn’t A Dog At All

An Idaho woman was in for quite the surprise when she tried saving her dog from a dog fight. The incident happened in Mackay on January 30, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

The woman looked outside of her home to see her dog fighting with what she believed to be another pet. She ran out to pull the animals apart. In a press release by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, they explained what happened next: “As she pulled the two animals apart, she realized that in one hand she held a juvenile, male mountain lion about 35 pounds, and not another dog as she expected.”

Understandably shocked, the woman called for her husband as she held the two animals apart. She told him to bring his gun. Her husband came outside and killed the animal as she held it. The couple immediately called police and wildlife officials to report the incident. The animal’s body will be tested to determine if an illness may have led it to attack the dog.

This incident marks the third time a mountain lion has attacked a dog in the area in the last month. Idaho has a large population of mountain lions. The mountain lions are largely left to their own devices, as they are self-sufficient. These attacks on pets and their willingness to approach humans creates a public safety hazard that authorities are looking to contain.
